Mouse Double Clicks on a Single Click: Troubleshooting

An extra click can come from a mechanical switch, power or connection conditions, or software that remaps input.

Collect a slow-click sample

Use the Double Click Test for 20 to 30 relaxed, evenly spaced clicks. Repeated unusually short intervals while you are clicking slowly are more informative than one fast pair.

Compare before replacing hardware

Try a second browser, charge a wireless mouse or reseat its receiver, and test another computer if possible. Disable button-remapping, macro, gaming, or accessibility software temporarily. If the result follows the mouse across systems, write down the test pattern for support.

Keep the symptom specific

A mouse can have a repeat-click issue while movement and scrolling remain normal. Use the Mouse Test to see whether other browser-visible input is also inconsistent.
